Right vs. Wrong and Right vs. Right: Health care Ethics and Not-Wrong Decisions

This workshop will look at the challenges of balancing ethical, legal, clinical and practical concerns in providing behavioral health care services, with specific reference to the laws and rules governing behavioral health practice, professional ethics codes and standards across the behavioral health provider licenses. Participants will be asked to apply the information presented to discuss and develop resolutions to examples of practice dilemmas offered by the presenter and shared by participants from their own professional, clinical experiences.

Learning objectives:

  1. recognize, be able to access and be able to utilize the guidance provided by licensure laws and rules, other relevant laws, and professional association ethics codes and related resources,
  2. understand the interplay between legal, ethical, clinical and other demands, duties and obligations in conducting professional practice and providing appropriate patient care, and
  3. be able to apply the understanding of these principals in an organized manner to analyzing and resolving common and unusual dilemmas that may arise in practice.

3 CEUS:  Ph.D., LPC, LADC, CADC, LCSW, LMFT and Case Management. Nursing certificate of participation.   Pre-registration is required.

About the Presenter

Bruce Hodson, Ph.D.

Bruce Hodson, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist with a background including professional education, service on the state psychologists licensing board, and leadership positions in the Oklahoma Psychological Association. His experiences in these roles have led to his interest in legal and ethical standards for health care, and he has become a familiar speaker among Oklahoma behavioral and allied health providers on these issues.
