This workshop will provide information on engaging with youth and families in collaborative, therapeutic, and respectful ways. One of the greatest challenges in working with individuals, especially those who abuse substances, is establishing and maintaining engagement in an ongoing goal-directed relationship. This workshop will teach clinicians how to engage effectively with clients and address resistance.

Learning objectives:

Participants will learn:

  1. Principles of engagement and collaboration in therapy;
  2. Methods of joining and engaging with family members; 
  3. Interventions to support goal-directed conversation; 
  4. Ways to manage resistance and divergent goals

3 CEUS:  Ph.D., LPC, LADC, CADC, LCSW, LMFT and Case Management and Nursing certificate of participation.   Pre-registration is required.

About the Presenter

Kenneth Moore, LCSW

Kenneth Moore, LCSW, serves as Adolescent Acute Unit Director at Parkside. He graduated with a Masters of Social Work degree from the University of Oklahoma and is licensed as a Clinical Social Worker. Ken has worked in a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings in both clinical and administrative roles. He is also serves as adjunct faculty with the University of Oklahoma’s School of Social Work.
